The Florida Forever program was started in 1990 and it purchases critical wilderness areas for conservation. Right now our House and Senate have NOT agreed to fund it as they get ready to hammer out a new budget. Some people don’t think it’s necessary to acquire these lands which are vital for the future of our state. I believe that economic growth and environmental conservation can work together, but it’s programs like this that help shield against unchecked development and changing land use regulations.
As the economy slowly improves-the land gets eaten up. Fact.
Gov. Scott recommended 15 million dollars for the program, but there has been no mention of it on the budget proposal that went through the House this week. Now it goes to committee for a Senate vote and still not a word. This will be the third year it’s not been funded. What gives?
The time is ripe to contact your representative and let them know that the Florida Forever is worth keeping.
